  Generic Name : Iodine

 

 Pronunciation : io·dine

 Trade Name(s) : Collosol iodine oral

 Why it is prescribed: Exact mechanism is not known. It inhibits hormone release. It is fastest acting thyroid inhibitor. On regular administration, antithyroid effect is seen in 2 weeks.

 When it is to be taken: 5-10ml diluted in water TD.

 How it should be taken: It comes in the form of 100ml liquid.

 Special Instruction : If the dosage is increased, goiter and hyperthyroidism occurs. Acne may flare. Tell your doctor if you are hyper sensitivity to drug.

 Side Effects : Angiodema, fever, thrombocytopenia, arthralgia, lymphadenopathy, salvation, swelling of lips and eyelids.

 Other Precautions : Contraindicated in case of pregnancy and lactation. May be used in older age.

 Storage Conditions : Store at room temperature.
